Engines and… action! This is a new episode of the series on the Paris ring road that started yesterday. If this Thursday, October 10, the speed is officially increased to 50 km/h by the arbitrary will of Anne Hidalgo, elected officials and associations will take action to ensure that this decision, which they consider unjustified, is annulled.

Vincent Jeanbrun, deputy of the Republican right (LR behind Eric Ciotti), announced on X that he had presented a bill to defend the interests of the workers of Ile-de-France. He justifies this initiative by underlining that “the ring road is an axis of regional interest”, especially because “more than 40% of journeys are made from suburb to suburb and almost 80% of ring road users are not Parisians”. According to him, the ring road must be returned to the Region to find a “unitary regional governance”.

On this point, as reported The Parisianhe is joined by the Association of Mayors of Ile-de-France (AMF), which purely and simply questions the legality of the decision taken by the mayor of Paris. If mayors have the right to adopt police measures on public roads, “the Paris ring road is a busy road, classified as such by decree n. 2009-615 of 3 June 2009, therefore also subject to the competences of the State, through the prefect of police”. In other words, the zeal alone of the socialist party represented by Anne Hidalgo should not be enough to transform the ring road in this way.

Above all because perhaps there are more effective and less restrictive solutions to protect Parisians on the ring road. The Île-de-France region, which had already opposed this reduction in the maximum authorized speed, had offered to half finance the installation of new sound-absorbing linings. For the moment the mayor of Paris doesn’t want to know more, but maybe he does petition launched by Vincent Jeanbrun could speed up the process.
