The Scientific and Technical Union for Transport is organizing in Kanev center today the traditional “Danube Forum” for Ruse, related to the transport infrastructure in the city. The special guest of the event was the deputy mayor Eng. Zdravka Velikova. This was announced by the press center of the Municipality of Ruse.
“We are extremely flattered by the fact that the forum is being held in Ruse, where the local government pays particular attention to infrastructure. Very important for us is the construction of the Ruse – Veliko Tarnovo highway and the second Danube bridge near Ruse. We are directing exceptional efforts to the development of the technical infrastructure on the territory of the municipality, as well as to the connections with the facilities of the national road network,” said Eng. Velikova.
Eng. Galina Vasileva, who is part of the Management Board of the Scientific and Technical Union for Transport, stated that Ruse is one of the few cities with a similar strategic geographical position and a well-developed transport infrastructure. The chairman of the transport union, engineer Yasen Ishev, recalled that on March 31, 1885, the first Bulgarian technical society was established in the country, to which the union is the successor and next year will celebrate 140 years since its establishment.
During the event, representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Communications Eng. Iveta Koleva and Nikolay Denchev presented projects under the “Transport and Transport Connectivity 2021-2027” program and the Connecting Europe Mechanism in the Ruse region. For the 70-year history of Danube Bridge was told by engineer Ivan Gogev, who pointed out that the facility was built in only 2 years and 3 months. The problems and solutions for the development of the Ruse railway junction were presented by Mina Apostolova, head of the department at the “Strategic development of the infrastructure” at the NKZHI.
The highlights of the forum were the presentations on the Ruse-Veliko Tarnovo highway and the construction of a second Danube bridge near Ruse.
Engineer Ishev, who is also the head of the construction supervision team for the second section of the highway – from Dve Mogili to Polski Trumbesh, gave a presentation on the highway work process. Ishev announced that an Expert Technical and Economic Council will be held on October 24. By the end of the year, it is expected that a construction permit will be issued for the entire second section, which is 35,400 km long and includes the bypass of Byala.
Currently, only one area of 8 km of the second section is being worked on. Large excavations are being made, a concrete junction and an asphalt base are being built. It is expected that in the near future the planners and contractors will make decisions to overcome the problem of high embankments on loess soils. Such have not been made in Bulgaria. Until now, the highest embankments were 8 m high, and here they have to be made with a height of 22-28 m. Eng. Ishev expressed hope that the specialists will find a solution to the problem as soon as possible and that the schedule will be followed, according to which this second section will be ready by the end of 2027.
In connection with the construction of the second Danube bridge, those present united around the idea of combining it with a railway line. It became clear that Romania is leading the project, now the construction site will be studied for 2 years, and then a contractor will be selected in a year or two.
