At the moment, I and my lawyers have not been duly notified by the independent prosecutor’s office of the European Union to submit an indictment to the court, claims the former mayor of Varna
He defined as false the information that the former mayor of Varna, Ivan Portnih, is accused. Earlier today, the European Prosecutor’s Office released information that he, the former regional governor of Varna, Spas Pasev, and three other people are accused of misusing European funds because of the Quarantine port.
The former mayor of Varna Ivan Portnih and his lawyers have not yet been officially informed that there is an indictment against him by the European Prosecutor’s Office, he announced on social networks. And the case was once again used to attack GERB during an election campaign.
“The information spread today about the European Public Prosecutor’s Office’s pre-trial proceedings against me is FALSE,” Portnich wrote on Facebook.
Here’s what else the former mayor of Varna says:
Indictment according to the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure means the preparation of an indictment and its submission to the relevant court!
The pre-trial proceedings are not over at all. Many procedural and investigative actions are to be carried out on it.
At the moment, I and my lawyers have not been duly notified by the independent prosecutor’s office of the European Union to file an indictment in court!
In view of the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code, at this stage of pre-trial proceedings no opinions, statements or evaluations are made public, therefore I will not make them either.
I am categorical in my position that it is inadmissible for the Bulgarian office of the European Prosecutor’s Office to be used for pre-election political purposes.
For another campaign, the case is used in the midst of it to attack GERB. The use of both Bulgarian and European institutions for pre-election purposes is inadmissible.
I note that both the applicant and the expert in the pre-trial proceedings are candidates for people’s representatives from the PP-DB list.
