CAN 2025 qualifiers: a big win for Burkina Faso over Burundi (4-1)
Ouagadougou, October 10, 2024 (AIB) – Etalons of Burkina Faso largely beat Hirondelles of Burundi on Thursday at the Alassane Ouattara stadium in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) with a score of 4 goals to 1, counting for the 3rd day of the CAN. Morocco 2025 Qualifiers Half-time: 3-1.
However, it was the Burundians who announced the colors by opening the scoring early in the morning with B. Kanaki (4th). The Stallions raised their level of play after that to take control of the game. Bournemouth (England) striker Dango Ouattara, assisted by his inherited captain Bertrand Traoré, restored parity in the score (33rd).
The Burundians will not have time to resettle themselves as Sacha Bancé doubled the lead, one minute after Dango Ouattara’s goal (34th). The nominal left hand of the Etalons Dango Ouattara will return before the break (44th) to double the 3rd goal scored by the Etalons, in the afternoon. Things are getting easier for the Brama Traoré foals who are undertaking a health walk in Ebimpé.
The vice-captain of the Etalons Issoufou Dayo, who was returning to the selection, will make the death spell for the Burundian victory in the 50th minute.
Next Sunday the two teams will face each other for the return match, counting for the 4th day of the CAN qualifiers, this time at the Félix Houphouët Boigny stadium in Abidjan.
Before the match between Senegal and Malawi tomorrow Friday, Burkina Faso maintains its leading position with 7 points (+5), followed by Senegal (4 points +1 with a game in hand), Burundi (3 points – 5) and Malawi (0). points – 3 with a game in hand).
CAN 2025 will be played in Morocco from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026.
