The Secretariat of Mobility of Cali has started the process of immobilizing vehicles that have been immobilized in official yards for more than a year, in compliance with Law 1730 of 2014.
This measure corresponds to the saturation of the yards, where more than 13 thousand vehicles are currently detained.
In addition, it seeks to prevent the spread of mosquito breeding sites in the surrounding areas, which represents a risk to public health, and the impact on the environment caused by the liquids and waste from these vehicles cushion
The liquidation process will apply to those vehicles that have not been claimed by their owners or holders during the past year.
These cars are considered abandoned from an administrative point of view, a figure that allows the authority to declare them as such after their owners do not remedy the causes of the immobilization or pay the debts accumulated by using the yards and towing trucks.
Requirements to avoid dissolution
The Secretary of Mobility of Cali, Wilmer Tabares, explained that the owners or holders of vehicles can contact the offices of the Ministry of Mobility to solve the reasons that caused the immobilization.
They must cover outstanding debts to the yards and manage the transfer of the vehicle before it is declared abandoned.
If the owners cannot be seen, the vehicle will either enter the liquidation process or be auctioned, depending on its condition.
“It is important that owners take action to avoid losing their vehicle”Tabares was added.
In accordance with Law 1730 of 2014, a list was published with the first 651 vehicle license plates already declared administratively abandoned.
Environmental and health impact
The transit yards, which contain thousands of vehicles, became a critical point for the spread of mosquitoes, due to the accumulation of stagnant water in the decaying bodies.
This problem presents a risk to the health of nearby communities, increasing the possibility of outbreaks of diseases such as dengue.
In addition, spillage of liquids and fuel from abandoned vehicles contaminates the soil, which negatively affects the environment.
For this reason, dismantling vehicles will not only free up space in yards, but will also reduce the impact on the environment and improve the quality of life in the surrounding areas.
The Mobility Secretariat pointed out that this process is part of a wider effort to maintain a cleaner and more organized city.
Call the owners
The Ministry of Mobility is urging all owners and holders of immobilized vehicles to regularize their situation as soon as possible, to avoid the definitive loss of their assets.
According to Law 1730 of 2014, the period for removing vehicles before they are declared abandoned is one year, during which time the owners can make the necessary payments and procedures.
