The 38-year-old Nadal has missed most of the 2023 competition and has only played in a few this year.

“I’m leaving professional tennis. The reality is that I’ve had some tough years, especially these last two,” Nadal said in a video posted on social media.

“It’s definitely a difficult decision that has taken me a while to make, but everything in life has a beginning and an end,” says the world tennis legend.

This season, for various reasons, Nadal refused to participate in the Australian Open Championship, Wimbledon Championship and the US Open, but lost to the German tennis player Alexander Zverev in the first round of the French Open Masters.

At the Paris Olympics, Nadal lost to Serbian Novak Djokovic in the second round of the singles competition, but reached the quarterfinals in the doubles tournament together with Carlos Alcaraz.

Nadal has won 22 Grand Slam singles titles, winning 14 times at Roland Garros. In 2008 in Beijing, he won the singles tournament of the Olympic Games, and eight years later in Rio de Janeiro together with Mark Lopez – in the doubles.

Nadal has won the Davis Cup four times with the Spanish national team.

Nadal was not included in the Spanish team at the Davis Cup group stage in September.

From November 19 to 24, the decisive battles of the Davis Cup will take place indoors on a hard surface in the Spanish city of Malaga.

During his career, Nadal has won 92 ATP tournaments and has been ranked number one in the world for 209 weeks.
