Tesla unveiled its long-awaited robotics at an event in the US. The car, officially called the Cybercab, takes design inspiration from the Cybertruck, and unlike many other robotics prototypes unveiled over the past few years, the Tesla will be available for private purchase for under $30,000.
The electric car is equipped with Tesla’s latest autonomous driving systems, and approximately 20 units were on display at the premiere, offering attendees self-driving rides. The automaker’s eccentric boss, Elon Musk, has claimed that production will begin towards the end of 2026.
As expected of any new Tesla model, the interior is extremely minimalistic, offering seating for two and featuring a large central infotainment screen, as if taken straight from a Model 3 or Model Y.
The wheels have solid aero covers that will help increase the range of the robotaxi, while at the back is a solid light bar. Since the car is designed to be fully autonomous, there is no need for side mirrors or a rear window.
Tesla did not provide details on the Cybercab’s drivetrain or say how many kilometers it will be able to travel on a single charge.
Elon Musk unveiled a surprise second model at the launch of the Cybercab, dubbed simply the Robovan. It is an all-electric, fully autonomous large futuristic bus that can seat up to 20 passengers comfortably or be used to transport goods.
The most radical part of the Robovan is the exterior design. It looks like a futuristic capsule from a sci-fi movie, with large glass side panels and LEDs on the front and back.
