Luxembourg coach Luc Holz was pleased with his team’s performance in the draw against Bulgaria. However, he drew attention to the poor state of the grass cover at the “Hristo Botev” stadium in Plovdiv, and he also had complaints against the referee from Slovenia, David Shmaits.
“I am happy with the performance. It was difficult to play football on this pitch. We performed well psychologically. There were many strange judgments by the referee. I did not understand why he did not show a red card already in the fourth minute. There was a similar situation in the 70th minute. We saw the replays and we think there should have been a red card. We don’t know why he didn’t use the VAR system,” Holtz said after the match.
“Gerson Rodríguez has not played enough in recent months and there is no way he can play two full matches by himself in a few days. The group is tough. We already have one point and we will wait for the result of the match between Belarus and Northern Ireland. Our target at the moment is to climb in the ranking and not be last in the group,” said the Luxembourg coach.
“We were prepared for this state of the field. It predisposes to more of a fight. It is difficult to play the football we rely on on this field,” concluded Luke Holtz.
