The Mahabharata on Bhishma Parvat

The name of the movie was discussed during the announcement of Bhishma Parvat. Bhishma Parvam is the sixth Parvam in the Mahabharata. Bhishma Parvat describes the 10 days that Bhishma led in the Mahabharata War which lasted for 18 days.

The connection with the Mahabharata may have been overlooked or confused as the film progressed. It examines how Bhishma Parvam is related to the epic Mahabharata.

************SPOILER ALERT********************

The same confusion that occurs when reading the Mahabharata for the first time occurs when starting to watch a movie. The families in the film have such a complex relationship. So let’s start the series with the senior character Mammootty’s Michael himself.

Michael is the third of five children in a family of five hundred. The film stars Bhishma as Michael. Mammootty’s Michael is like Bhishma who is bedridden by his relatives and the younger generation of his family. Like Bhishma, Michael abandons his married life for the sake of his family. He has created a fear among the family members so that they do not quarrel with each other. But Michael is also their protective shield.

Even Bhishma is revered by all as Bhishma’s grandfather.

Michael is attacked from all four sides as arrows fall from Bhishma’s head to toe. The falling Michael then fights his way ahead of Ajax. Let me know who Ajaz is soon.

Matthew, who arrives as Michael’s older brother, is played by Nistar. This character is reminiscent of Dhritarashtra. The only difference between them is that Mathai can see if Dhritarashtra does not see. The relationship between Bhishma and Dhritarashtra in the Mahabharata is not directly adopted in the film. But their character structure is like that.

In ancient mythology, Dhritarashtra and Pandu were the sons of Vichitraveeran, the half-brother of Bhishma. But in the movie, Matthew is Michael’s older brother. Although Dhritarashtra is as alien to Bhishma, Matthew has a reverential reverence for Michael.

Unlike the Dhritarashtras, he could not guide or discipline them because of his love for his son. Mathai’s wife is Molly Gandhari played by Mala Parvati. But in character it is different from Gandhari. Unlike Gandhari, Molly is not a loving or gentle person. Spectacles are the only Gandhari reference among them.

Their sons, Peter and Paul, are Kauravas. The characters are played by Shine Tom Chacko and Farhan Fazil. They are especially reminiscent of Duryodhana and Dushasana among the Kauravas. Paul supports any of Peter’s plans. Both have strong opposition and hostility to Michael. As well as fear.

Now Pyle Pandu is the elder brother of Michael and Matthew. He is killed in the film. Fatima Kunthi, played by Nadia Moidu, Pyle’s widow. Unlike Pandu and Kunti, Fatima has no children in Paili. Represents the gods who gifted their second husband, Ali Kunti. Ajaz and Ami, played by their sons Saub and Srinath Bhasi, are Pandavas.

Since Ajaz and Ami are not the children of Pyle, their prominence in the family of five hundred is disturbing to others. This is a direct reference to the Mahabharata. This is because the Kauravas do not accept the Pandavas as the sons of the Pandavas. Ajaz and Ami are as smart as the Pandavas. All the ventures they start are successful. That’s why Michael has a special affection for them. There is a special bond between Michael and Alika’s children.

Michael’s younger brother, Simon Vidura, is likely to be fired. But Simon’s character construction is completely different from Vidura’s.

Susan, played by her youngest sister Lena, is reminiscent of Kauravas’ younger sister Dussala. Her husband Martin is likely to be Jayadrathana. Martin is in the picture with Peter and Paul.

Molly’s brother TV James Shakuni is played by Dileesh Pothen. He is a politician in the film. James is as hostile to Michael as Shakuni is to Bhishma. Michael becomes an obstacle in the way of James. It is James who unites Michael’s enemies and makes plans.

Rajan Karnan, played by Sudev Nair, gives hints. Although not entirely Karna, there are some similarities. Rajan was deported at a young age. James advises Peter and Paul to team up with the mighty Rajan because they can’t cope with Michael standing beyond their limits. Like Karna, Rajan is killed through deception.
