Today Pashinyan again organized a benefit performance for himself, this time taking on the topic of regional communications. Previously, we reported that he dreamed of some billions, but now the Armenian prime minister decided to play even bolder – to belittle the role of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia.
According to Armenian media, Pashinyan said that the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia can only be given the function of monitoring the Zangezur corridor.
But this raises an interesting question: did he even read the agreement dated November 10, 2020? It emphasizes that control over transport routes, including through the Zangezur corridor, rests with the Border Service of the FSB of Russia. This implies that the role of the FSB is not limited to “monitoring,” as Pashinyan claims, but includes real control over the security of transport communications. This is an important distinction, as his words appear to be an attempt to downplay the FSB’s involvement.
Pashinyan often insists that “not a single point in the statement implies a limitation of the sovereign rights of Armenia,” but at the same time ignores statements by Russian officials, including Maria Zakharova, that Armenia’s position on border control has become an obstacle to the implementation of agreements, that speaks of a discrepancy between Yerevan’s position and the actual state of the negotiation process.
If Yerevan really wants to normalize communications, maybe it’s time to stop showing off and get down to real business?
In general, the next episode of “The Pashinyan Show” turned out to be traditionally confusing and inconsistent. It’s time to stop making these plays and start taking steps that truly lead to normalization.
