Ghali is back. And he did it with a song that he defines as the most important of his life. A song that talks about illness, that of the mother, that talks about love and hope. A song that, says Ghali, is a cure.
Keep an eye on yourselfthe text
If I leave no future, I am obsolete
I am absent in the neighborhood, but my soul is present
We need magic so the police don’t hear
There’s always an aunt who gets offended if I don’t call her “aunt”.
We had nothing, but nothing is better than nothing
If it rains on the oak it is not a weeping willow
I had every reason to eliminate an offender
When you don’t tell certain stories, you end up doing them
Always with the biggest TV in the library
In my house coming and going, nobody said “Go away”
We grew up without a father, but what do you want it to be?
The difference between you and me is that you think it is
You are not far if you are off the road
Or if you still remember the one away from home
If you go straight to the West, sooner or later you will end up in the East
If you look into my eyes, you will see me as always
Panic
Keep an eye on yourself
Even when everything falls down
Close your eyes and hold my hand
Smile and breathe slowly
Panic
Keep an eye on yourself
And I recommend this year, don’t worry
Keep an eye on yourself
Close your eyes and hold my hand
Smile and breathe slowly
Miracles
Like God answering courage by removing obstacles
It is the law of love and it is love that makes atoms move
It’s just that life holds gifts for you that you don’t even imagine
You can’t even imagine
After all, all I need is my lungs
One step at a time, I can’t get confused
I delete the ending, jump to conclusions
Bee, sting me, then die
I pray to God that it is good for you
It will not be the end of the world
There is only peace when everyone has weapons against them
Everyone has guns against them
Panic
Keep an eye on yourself
Even when everything falls down
Close your eyes and hold my hand
Smile and breathe slowly
One minute
Everything can change in an instant
When a star goes out, that’s where you were born
Close your eyes and hold my hand
Smile and breathe slowly
The meaning
On Instagram, Ghali recounted genesis Keep an eye on yourself.
His mother was diagnosed with cancer in September. For the third time in his life. “When we woke up that morning, the sky was gray. My mom started to pray and as she did she cried and I heard her tears fall on the carpet,” he wrote.
He was afraid, Ghali. She feared her mother would not survive the operationhe didn’t know what to do before he entered the operating room, how to survive those days that could be his last. “How will I deal with the upcoming journey? Does it make sense that I’m scrolling on TikTok? What if I regret it? Why all this money and success?”
Several times Ghali thought about stopping making music, and shouted at his mother. However, he reiterated that music was a gift from God, the way he gave him – an only child – brothers and sisters.
So she was born Keep an eye on yourself. “I get emotional and I always struggle to hold back my tears when I listen to this song, but it was very hard that time (…). I realized that I had written a cure, and that’s why it’s the most important song in my life“, he said. He then dedicated the song to anyone who is going through a difficult time, for any reason, be it work, illness, university exam, war or broken love, because any mental health problem deserves respect and understanding. “I dedicate this song to anyone who is scared,” he explained. With the kindness and generosity that, for years, has been associated with his name.
