In Japan, the use of ‘retirement agency’ services is increasing, especially among the younger generation who have decided to retire.
According to a Mainichi report on the 10th (local time), one in five people in their 20s who have changed jobs in the past year used a retirement agency service.
Retirement agencies provide services that help retirees who want to quit their jobs handle the pressure from management and go through resignation-related procedures, such as avoiding non-payment of wages.
The cost is about 20,000 to 50,000 yen (about 180,000 to 450,000 won).
According to the results of a survey by the employment information site ‘My Navi’, the younger generation had a clear tendency to use the service, the media reported.
This survey was conducted on regular employees and human resources managers in their 20s to 50s from June last year to July this year, and was based on a total of 2,400 responses.
Those in their 20s accounted for the highest proportion at 18.6%, followed by those in their 30s at 17.6%, those in their 40s at 17.3%, and those in their 50s at only 4.4%.
There were various reasons for using retirement agency services. 40.7% of respondents said, ‘I think I can dissuade them from retiring,’ 32.4% said, ‘It is not an environment where I can talk about retirement,’ and 23.7% said, ‘I think it will cause trouble if I tell them about my retirement.’
By industry, finance and insurance consulting was the most common (31.4%), followed by IT, communication and Internet (29.8%), and manufacturing (25.4%).
Researcher Shota Miyamoto cited ‘lack of communication between people and companies’ as the reason for the increase in users of retirement agency services, and said, “Companies must create an environment where communication is easy and opportunities for mutual understanding.”
