Presidential Council President Mohamed Al-Manfi reiterated his assertion that the Council is not a party to the conflict, and is in contact with all parties, keen to exclude any of them in the path of reconciliation.
Al-Manfi added during his meeting with the high-level African delegation, accompanied by the representative of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, that they are continuing to strengthen the national partnership approach and achieve national ownership of the solution.
Al-Manfi also reviewed the steps taken since the launch of the national reconciliation process, in partnership with the African Union, and with the support of the international community, the challenges facing the achievement of this entitlement, and ways to overcome them.
For his part, the head of the unity government, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, considered that the division the country is witnessing is not social, but rather a political dispute to share wealth, stressing the need to support political settlement paths and achieve reconciliation.
During his meeting with the African delegation, Al-Dabaiba stressed the need to support the Union to advance national paths for settlement between the parties, achieve stability in the country, and go to elections in accordance with strong and fair laws, expressing his readiness to hand over power to any party elected by the Libyan people.
For his part, Mauritanian President – Chairman of the African Union – Mohamed Al-Ghazouani said that the aim of the visit to Libya is to prepare for the national reconciliation meeting scheduled to be held in November of this year in Addis Ababa.
Al-Ghazwani considered that national reconciliation is essential for any comprehensive peace process that leads to the adoption of a reconciliation charter and ensuring Libya’s return to the roles it plays at the regional and international levels, as he put it.
