“My spontaneous statements were absolutely not okay. I would like to apologize for that. The topic was clearly discussed internally and I ask for your understanding that I do not want to comment further on it,” the 33-year-old Behrens told “Sport Bild” said.

VfL told “Sport Bild” that during an “internal meeting there were statements that were not in line with the position of VfL Wolfsburg.” The incident was “immediately dealt with” internally. The Bundesliga club emphasized: “The club and its employees stand for diversity and tolerance; fundamental values ​​such as respect, honesty and openness have always been firmly anchored in the club’s philosophy.”
