Until recently, one of the synonyms of the classic taxi was the Mercedes E-class in beige color. The premium manufacturer has withdrawn from part of the taxi market and will leave only the V-Class vans and the electric EQV on German streets. The Chinese Great Wall Motors will try to take advantage of the lack of the Mercedes sedan, which will offer its GWM Wey 03 model to German taxi drivers.
At 4.67 meters long, the GWM Wey 03 fits perfectly into the compact class and is said to have a spacious interior and 517-litre boot. The cockpit is modern, with a 9.2-inch screen behind the steering wheel, a head-up display and a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen. Apple Carplay and Android Auto are supported. With 17 radar sensors and several cameras, the Wey 03 enables partially automated driving. The car received five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test.
Prices start at €47,900 for the base model. Taxi drivers are currently being enticed by GWM with a free package consisting of a taxi meter, taxi alarm and optional body wrap. In beige, of course.
