At Pre-COP, progress was made in discussions to reduce methane emissions.
As Day.Az reported on Friday, John Podesta, senior adviser to the US President for international climate policy, said this during a briefing in Baku.
“I think we’ve made our priorities clear, but certainly during these pre-COP29 meetings we want to make sure that the historic outcome at COP28, the so-called UAE consensus, will be preserved. We have an agreement with China and Azerbaijan to host the summit on methane and during COP29. We want to work in partnership to ensure that countries come forward with new commitments to reduce gases such as methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons and other greenhouse gases. We want to complete this round of meetings, which is known as the article. 6 of the Paris Agreement to ensure the proper functioning of highly integrated carbon markets. I think we have made progress in this meeting on this topic. And finally, as I have already noted, one of the most important results of this COP will be a New Collective Quantitative Target. Climate Finance (NCQG) is a continuation of the $100 billion annual commitment that was agreed under the Paris Agreement,” he said.
