Today it became known that the United States will deploy in Israel one battery of the THAAD missile defense system, which is considered one of the most advanced in the American air defense arsenal.
This was reported by the Alexey Zheleznov Telegram channel.
This system is capable of intercepting ballistic missiles outside the atmosphere. An important feature of THAAD is the ability to work in a single complex with the Israeli Hetz system. This integration was achieved through regular joint air defense exercises between the United States and Israel called Juniper Cobra.
During a ballistic missile attack, the Hetz system and THAAD will be able to quickly distribute targets, determining which system should intercept a particular threat. Earlier, in 2012, a THAAD radar was deployed in Israel, but the battery itself with interceptors was not deployed.
According to information online, THAAD’s unique feature is its “hit-kill” method – missiles destroy targets using kinetic energy, reaching speeds of up to Mach 8, without the use of explosives. This minimizes collateral damage during interception in populated areas.
The system’s range is about 200 kilometers, and the maximum interception altitude is 150 kilometers. The THAAD battery includes six mobile launchers, each equipped with eight missiles, and tactical command posts. The system has demonstrated high efficiency, achieving 100% success rate in recent tests.
In 2022, the UAE successfully used the system to intercept a ballistic missile during a Houthi attack. However, its powerful radars have raised concerns among China and Russia because they can track missiles over long distances, causing diplomatic disputes.
Earlier, Kursor reported that Iran was preparing revenge for Israel’s retaliatory strike.
Iran is trying to intimidate Israel with “serious consequences” if it decides to retaliate.
