An emergency delegation of doctors from Hadassah Medical Center set out tonight, Monday through Sunday, for southern Poland, with the aim of assisting Ukrainian refugees crossing the border and in need of immediate medical assistance. The delegation will reach the area to which tens of thousands of Ukrainians are flocking and join the staff of the University Hospital in Lublin, the largest medical center in the city located about 100 km from the southern border of Poland.

Hadassah said that “members of the delegation, which currently has 4 pioneers in the force, with additional experts from Hadassah expected to follow, will share their experience with local medical staff on how to locate trauma victims, and work with Lublin hospital staff to assess resources and anyone needed to care for refugees. “Their growing number may challenge the hospital’s ability – out of what is known so far, about 500,000 to 700,000 out of about 1,000,000 Ukrainian refugees have fled to Poland.”

Hadassah emphasizes that “Israeli physicians bring with them extensive knowledge of medical assistance and care provided during wartime, and the technical and human infrastructure needed to deal with a large sudden influx of patients.
