A large concert program consisting of musical works by Azerbaijani composers and folk music for organ, organized by the association “Friends of Azerbaijan“(Switzerland) with the support of the Azerbaijan State Committee for Work with Diaspora, the chairman of the association, the author of the project, told Day.Az Arzu Aliyeva-Bodmer.
The evening was greeted with great interest by music lovers. For the first time in more than thirty years, colorful musical works were performed in this church, where the Klavier-Orgel (piano-organ) festival is held annually, presented in combination with the unique sound capabilities of the organ and one of the oldest stringed musical instruments of Azerbaijani national culture – the kamancha. It should be noted that “Making of the stringed musical instrument kamancha and performing arts” is included in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
“The peculiarity of this concert evening was that not only in Azerbaijan, but for the first time outside its borders, the melancholic sounds of the organ and kamancha merged together. Throughout the entire concert, the audience enjoyed this beauty. The evening featured both samples of Azerbaijani folk music and works of famous Azerbaijani composers. The works were presented by organist Shafag Abdullayeva, who has repeatedly performed both in Azerbaijan and abroad, and kamancha performer, laureate of international competitions Medina Shahgeldieva.
At the evening, mugams “Bayaty-Shiraz” and “Shur”, works by outstanding composers Uzeyir Hajibeyli, Vagif Mustafazadeh, Haji Khanmamedov, Ertogrul Javid, were performed, and a musical composition from Azerbaijani national dances was presented. A highlight was also the performance of the work “Applemania” by the Austrian violinist, composer and conductor Alexey Laudesman on kamancha.
The evening also featured a photographic exhibition by Andre Jabali, dedicated to the rich history and enchanting nature of Azerbaijan.
In conclusion, Arzu Aliyeva-Bodmer expressed gratitude to everyone who helped in the implementation of the project and the guests of the evening.
“Culture is a means of communication between people. Music knows no boundaries, so we believe that the sounds of Azerbaijani music will retain their echo within the walls of this historical place for a long time, and the melancholic, mysterious sound of kamancha will make hearts fall in love with it,” she said.
