[건축탐구 집] The episode ‘Multiple Homeowners in the Forest’ will be broadcast on EBS1 at 9:55 pm on October 15th.
Multi-homeowner with six mud houses
In Muju, Jeollabuk-do, there is a builder who owns not one, but six mud houses living in one forest? In addition, they say that each house has a different exterior… starting with a square house, a twin round house, a half-moon house, and the last type of house with a 100 pyeong roof that is decorated with beauty. The construction of an earthen house was started by an owner who has worked in various occupations since childhood and has accumulated experience in various fields. In particular, the last house with a 100-pyeong roof that he built with his son is a joint project between father and son, so its interior is also unique.
The owner, Mr. Chilbong, had no choice but to put a lot of effort into the 100 pyeong roof house that was built as a newlywed home for his son and his wife. A whopping 500 tons of dirt and stones went into this house. There are 18,600 40kg bags of dirt piled up that even an adult man would find difficult to lift. It doesn’t end here! 24 11-meter rafters and huge Hume pipe columns work in harmony to support a 100-pyeong roof house. Even my architect friend stuck his tongue out. However, unlike a perfect house, there were many twists and turns during the construction process…
The son, Jeon Young-jae, wanted to build a roof as soon as possible, and the owner, Jeon Chil-bong, wanted to raise the roof even further. Even family members cannot always agree on the same thing, so my son eventually declared a strike. Afterwards, his son Youngjae did not come to the construction site for a week, and in the meantime, it rained unexpectedly, and the owner of the building, Mr. Jeon Chil-bong, had to scoop out the rainwater that had flowed into the mud house alone.
Although they often bicker, the owner, Jeon Chil-bong, created an art studio with a window that allows a panoramic view of the four seasons for his son, Jeon Young-jae, who is an artist. Thanks to this, my daughter-in-law, a city woman who used to hate living in a mud house, now says that she likes the mud house. In particular, the son, Jeon Young-jae, and the owner, Jeon Chil-bong, are living an artistic life, drawing pictures with the wide expanse of nature outside the window as their background.
Chilbong, the owner of the house, said that even though he thought about giving up many times while building his house, he was eventually comforted by touching the clay. We explore his special story of building six mud houses, which were said to be difficult to build even once.
Multi-homeowners dreaming of an architectural republic
Jangsu, Jeollabuk-do, is there a place where more houses are being built every day? Starting with the direct construction of the 1st modern house, the owner built the 2nd cabin house located on a lush valley, and the 3rd natural red clay room house by hand. It doesn’t end here! It is said that they are already planning to build units 4, 5, and 6… However, unlike the ambitious building owner, it turns out that the house is full of design mistakes and construction errors.
The owner who started building his first house through the first modern house. The high window opened on the south side to let in light does not let in a single ray of light due to the terrace on the second floor, and the kitchen window is too large and low and is located under the sink. In addition, the living room became smaller while trying to realize his dream of creating a courtyard. It’s full of unsatisfactory things. Also, because I was very interested in various materials, I took on the challenge of building an experimental house with one side made of lightweight steel structure and the other side made of ALC structure. However, if you apply silk wallpaper that is not suitable for the humid ALC structure, you have to endure the hassle of turning on the dehumidifier as soon as you get home.
The person who is willing to take on the hassle is Mr. Duo, a friend of 25 years who comes and goes on the first floor of the first modern house as if it were his own home. Thanks to this, the second floor is entirely the owner of the building, Won-yeon. The owner of the building had memories of five siblings living in one room as a child, and perhaps that was why he had a strong desire to build a house. Perhaps the older sister recognized his younger brother’s feelings, but it was his older sister, Kim Jeong-suk, and brother-in-law, Moon Seon-seok, who helped him with the construction of the red clay room house. But was my greed too much? Because the red clay room was built too large, the cozy feeling disappeared, and heat leaked out through the large windows that were opened just for the sake of being pretty. In short, there is no such thing as a bright dog apricot.
From a slightly unique red clay room house to a problematic cabin house that ended up putting the owner in the hospital! However, his dream of building an architectural republic is not yet over. The client’s house construction is currently in progress until the final 6th reinforced concrete house is built. Will No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 be able to reach its conclusion without any defects?
The owner’s houses are growing day by day as multiple houses in the forest. Let’s explore this.
