In Senigallia the first edition of the Rosi Award, dedicated to short films about the sea

The first Rosi Short Film Award was held on Sunday 13 October at the charming Casa del Mare located in the tourist port of Senigallia, in memory of Professor Mario Fernando Rosi.

The event, which saw the participation, among others, of Mayor of Senigallia Massimo Olivetti and Councilors Gabriele Cameruccio, Alan Canestrari and Simona Romagnoli, it was strongly desired by the children Maria and Gianluigi to remember their deceased father, a prominent figure in the Senigallian panorama.

Since the 1990s, the doctor and pioneer Rosi was actively involved in a series of initiatives for environmental protectionand, involving not only local administrations, but also citizens and tourists. Thanks to his commitment, the Marche region has seen a radical transformation in the way tourism is managed, with a focus on environmental sustainability policies, infrastructure such as wastewater purification plants, cycle paths and waste recycling. Primary and high schools in the region have been involved in these initiatives, helping to educate future generations about environmental protection. Furthermore, the professor and entrepreneur – owner of the well-known Ritz hotel on the seafront and with a new ecological vision within the Senigallia Hotel Association – allowed the city of Senigallia to obtain the coveted Blue Flag for the first time in 1997after having urged municipal administrations to undertake a more sustainable path.

The recognition, reserved for more or less young directors and dedicated to short films with the sea as their themewas established with the purpose of raise community awareness of the importance of the environment and its protection, promoting greater attention to the protection of seas, rivers and the ecosystem in general.

This year, the first, the Rosi Short Film Award saw the participation of 50 works coming from all over the world; after a careful selection, the winners were proclaimed in the following categories:

Best Director: the short film The Bishop by Romeo Pizzol;
Best Photography: Mara Mira il Mare by Mario Boccuni;
Best Screenplay: The Shell Seeker by Ettore Di Gennaro;

International Award, chosen by the public via online voting: My brother and I at Eberto Manotas.

The 2025 edition of the Rosi Cortometraggi Prize is already scheduled and, in the meantime, the organizers – the Rosi family together with the producer Francesco Diaz – intend to involve schools and environmental associations in projects dedicated to the protection of the sea, the Misa river and the surrounding environment.
