A presentation of the 1508 decree of the founder of the Safavid state, the famous poet Shah Ismail Khatai (1487-1524), took place at the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, Day.Az reports.

The document was purchased this year by an Azerbaijani citizen at a Christie’s auction in England and donated to the National Museum of the History of Azerbaijan. The document was signed by Shah Ismail Khatai on July 4, 1508 (25 Safar 914 AH). The decree on property issues is written in Persian, in the style of “gara shikeste” and confirmed by the seal of Khatai.

Deputy Minister of Culture Farid Jafarov noted at the event that returning to Azerbaijan and storing samples of historical and cultural heritage belonging to our people is always the focus of attention of our state. This is also one of the main directions of our cultural policy.

“It is gratifying that our citizens support the activities of state institutions in this area, and such initiatives demonstrate the solidarity of our society and commitment to national values. This rare document, dating back to the first years of the Safavid Empire, is a valuable exhibit of the traditions of Azerbaijani statehood, as well as a historical source for future generations,” he said.

Museum director, academician Nailya Velikhanly In her speech, she noted that the return to the country of samples of the historical and cultural heritage of Azerbaijan has already become a tradition: “The acquisition, on the personal initiative of our citizen, of the decree of the great son of the Azerbaijani people, the commander and poet Shah Ismail Khatai and the transfer to our museum is a real example of patriotism.”

Noting that the document will be exhibited in the permanent exhibition of the museum, Nailya Velikhanli emphasized that its delivery to Azerbaijan on the 500th anniversary of the death of Shah Ismail Khatai has symbolic significance.

President of ANAS, academician Isa Gabibbeyli assessed the return to the country of the document signed by Shah Ismail Khatai as a great historical and politically important event.

Director of the Institute of History and Ethnology of NANA, Professor Kerim Shukyurov and Secretary of the Azerbaijan Writers Union Ilgar Fahmi talked about government during the period of Shah Ismail Khatai and his artistic creativity.

At the end of the event, an artistic and musical composition was presented by the Ensemble of Ancient Musical Instruments of the State Museum of Musical Culture of Azerbaijan.
