Sanctions in the US for an alleged charity that raised money for Palestine

The United States has imposed sanctions on one of the key international organizations it considers to be raising funds for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), which Washington has declared a terrorist organization, Reuters reported, citing BTA.

The US Treasury Department said it had imposed sanctions on the pro-Palestinian Samidoun Network, accusing it of being a “front organization that serves as an international sponsor” of the PFLP.

The PFLP, which is also involved in the fighting against Israel in Gaza, was designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the US in October 1997.

The Ministry pointed out that NFOP uses “Samidun” to raise funds in Europe and North America. The organization’s activities have been banned in Germany since last year.

“Organizations like Samidun operate under the guise of charitable organizations that claim to provide humanitarian aid to those in need, but in reality divert funds to aid terrorist organizations,” the ministry said in a statement.

So far, “Samidun” has not commented on the matter.

A member of the NFOP leadership has also been subject to sanctions.

Canada also announced today that it is designating Samidoon as a terrorist organization.

“Violent extremism, acts of terrorism and the financing of terrorism have no place in Canadian society or in other countries,” Public Safety, Democratic Institutions and Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominique LeBlanc said in a statement.

The Treasury Department said the PFLP remains active in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, and that it was involved in the October 7 attack.

More than 42,000 Palestinians have been killed so far in the Gaza offensive, according to figures from health authorities in the Palestinian enclave.
