‘Defending champion’ Lee Min-ji, tied for 11th place with Lydia Go
Shin Ji-eun (32) tied for the lead with a sophisticated shot on the first day of the BMW Ladies Championship (total prize money of $2.2 million), the only LPGA tour held in Korea.
In the first round of the tournament held at the Seowon Hills Course (par 72) in Seowon Valley, Paju, Gyeonggi-do on the 17th, Shin Ji-eun hit 8 under par 64, making 8 birdies and no bogeys.
Shin Ji-eun was tied for the lead with Hannah Green (Australia) and Ashley Buhai (South Africa).
Shin Ji-eun, who has 14 years of LPGA tour experience, has one win in total. He came out on top at the 2016 VOA Texas Shootout.
Shin Ji-eun, who is trying to win the title for the first time in eight years, boasted accurate shots in front of Korean fans with a 100% fairway landing rate and a 94% green hitting rate.
Shin Ji-eun, who started the game at the 10th hole, caught her first birdie at the 11th hole (par 5). He then increased his momentum by recording three consecutive birdies starting from the 14th hole (par 3).
Shin Ji-eun reduced one more stroke in the 2nd hole (par 4) and then recorded consecutive birdies in the 5th and 6th holes (par 4). He then made a birdie on the 8th hole (par 5) and finished the first day tied for the lead.
Yoo Hae-ran (23), who is aiming for his second win this season, ranked alone in 4th place with 8 birdies and 1 bogey with 7 under par 65 strokes.
Other Korean players also gained strength thanks to the support of Korean fans. Choi Hye-jin (25), Seong Yu-jin (24), and Ji Eun-hee (38) tied for 5th place with a total of 6 under par 66 strokes.
Kim Hyo-joo (29), Kim A-lim (29), and Lee Jeong-eun (28) tied for 11th place with ‘defending champion’ Lee Min-ji (Australia) and 2024 Paris Olympics gold medalist Lydia Go (New Zealand) with 5 under par 67 strokes.
