The “Qatar Reads” program delivers books to libraries in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region

This initiative involves the distribution of a thousand reading kits specially designed for several community libraries, with the aim of instilling a taste for reading in children in order to enrich their culture and allow them to discover themselves and immerse themselves in the worlds of thought and creativity, with the perspective of training a new generation passionate about reading.

According to those responsible for the program, it is in line with the objectives of the “Years of Culture” initiative initiated by the “Qatar Museums” foundation, aiming to promote mutual respect between different cultures as well as unity and dialogue between peoples.

In a speech for the occasion, the director of the “Qatar Reads” program, Fatima Al Malki, indicated that this cultural event, which will continue until next December in several cities in the Kingdom, aims to bring families closer to books and expand the community of readers.

This initiative, she added, coincides with the distribution of a thousand reading kits centered around Morocco to children in Qatar, noting that it is marked by the presentation of the book “Mariem in Morocco”, aimed at discovering new spaces and new ideas about the Kingdom in a narrative style.

The partnership with the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco is part of the activities of the Cultural Year (Qatar Morocco 2024), said the official, welcoming the cooperation with the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Youth. Communication, which allows the organization of a series of cultural activities in Morocco as part of this event.

For his part, the head of the programming and technical interventions service at the Book Directorate of the Ministry of Culture, Mohamed Taouil, affirmed that the “Qatar Reads” initiative concerns, in addition to the distribution of reading kits, the organization of visits to media libraries and several libraries in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region for the benefit of many children to cultivate a taste for reading among young people.

On the menu of this event are several artistic activities, including the presentation of plays and exhibitions related to storytelling methods.

The children participating in this event enjoyed the story of “Hayy Ibn Yaqzân”, inspired by the novel by Ibn Tufail, told using the Japanese storytelling technique “kamishibai”.

“Qatar Reads” is a reading program for families, targeting children aged 3 to 13 to encourage them to love books and develop their personal library.

The Morocco-Qatar Cultural Year 2024 is designed in cooperation with a number of leading institutions in Qatar, part of the organizing committee of the Years of Culture initiative and their counterparts in Morocco, with the support of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication of Morocco, the Embassy of Qatar in Rabat and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Doha.
