Malappuram: The State Muslim League will now be led by Panakkad Syed Sadiqali Shihab Thangal. Sadiq Ali was announced as the state president by the high level committee meeting held at the residence of Panakkad Hyderali yesterday morning. Hyder Ali, who was the president, was appointed following their demise. Sadiqali is Hyderali’s younger brother.

Rashidali Shihab Thangal nominated Sadiqali and the National President of the Muslim League, Prof. Khader Moein was also announced. The meeting unanimously supported.

The Malappuram district committee has not elected a new chairman. The announcement will come later. Sadiqali Shihab Thangal will be a member of the National Political Advisory Committee of the Muslim League.

After the demise of Muhammadali Shihab in 2009, when Hyderali became the state president of the Thangal League, Sadiqali was made the Malappuram district president. He was the state president of the Youth League from 2000 to 2007 and the Sunni Students Federation for 15 years. He is currently the State Vice President of Samastha Youth Wing SYS and a member of the Executive Committee of Samastha Kerala Islamic Religious Education Board.

The decision was taken immediately so as not to create a vacuum in the party. The work ahead will be in the same path as the successors. The league will also take the initiative to bring the new generation together
