Festival of sacred music: the Spanish group Romances–Accademia del Piacere and the Artean Ensemble in concert in Fez

Known as one of the most prestigious and oldest music ensembles in Spain and Europe, the ensemble, led by the talented musician Fahmi Alghai, was able to transport, in the company of the singer and actress Ghalia Benali, the public on a journey of discovery of different musical expressions mixing this Spirit of Andalus with gypsy, oriental and Sufi music.

Mixed in the crucible of marginalization with gypsies and migratory peoples of all kinds, the last Moors added their melismas to the Andalusian musical DNA: this unique way of vocalizing which, beyond musicological evidence, deeply exalts the soul Spanish.

Alongside the other singers of the group, the magnificent voice of Ghalia Benali gave an original oriental charm to this concert. This singer of Tunisian origin is capable of expressing her art through a multitude of expressions, from baroque to ancient music, from Oum Kalthoum to Sufi poetry or Indian music.

“I have been hearing about this festival for a long time, which is now in its 27th edition,” Ghalia Benali, who is also a composer, told MAP, adding that “I am very happy to finally participate” in this event. and above all “visit Fez, a city that has been calling me for a very long time and sing in front of an audience that comes from all over Morocco and abroad.”

“Today’s concert brings together three groups including Accademia del Piacere, based in Seville and which plays early Spanish music, the Artean Ensemble (an ensemble of voices) and me with my music and texts,” he said. -she lets it be known.

“We worked together thanks to Accademia del Piacere who brought us together and we were honored to be there,” said Ghalia Benali.

Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Festival is being held from May 24 to June 1 under the theme “The Quest for the Al-Andalus Spirit”.

During this edition, Spain was chosen as guest of honor to celebrate the historical and present ties that unite Spain and Morocco.

The 27th edition of this festival, a special moment of the spirit of living together, dialogue and tolerance, is marked by a musical program bringing together several artists and troupes from the two countries who will express through their fusions and their shows this particular dimension of openness, harmony and living together for a better future.
