For the first time since the incident in September 2018 and since he was released from prison about a month and a half ago, Yitzhak Aspa first spoke to reporter Eli Senor on News 13 and shared his feelings.
It will be recalled that Yitzhak Aspa was convicted of abandoning the late boy Ari Nesher after hitting him with his car in September 2018, and was released earlier this year after serving about two of the three years of imprisonment he was sentenced to.
In an interview with Eli Senor on News 13, he says: “There were times I wanted to apologize but I couldn’t. I don’t remember his sight on the road, I just ran straight, I did not see anything.
I made all the possible mistakes. I denied, I did not take responsibility. I lied, I tried to dodge. I tried to suppress it. I made the worst mistakes there are. “
“You always have the conscience that tells you that if you did things differently, it might have had different consequences. So I would approach, I shirk responsibility, and I know I hurt a lot of people.
Understand the angry person I signed with Bnei Yehuda. If this thing had not happened to me, I would not want someone like Yitzhak Aspa to play for me in the team. Why would I want to? “
“I left, okay. Two boys, one was seriously injured and one was killed later. It’s awful. I underestimated the greatest value, which is life itself.”
“As soon as I saw the family I froze at that moment and just chose not to deal with it.”
When asked if he remembers the sight of Ari Nesher on the road he replied: “No. I just can not. I just ran straight, I did not see anything.”
You tried to hide the vehicle, to blame a friend. Do you remember these things?
“Obviously, I remember them. I’m sorry about that, it’s part of ‘getting rid of it.’ I told you, as soon as you get such a shock, you always make the mistakes, I made the worst mistakes there are.”
Have you thought that if you had called for help it might have been possible to save Ari?
“Certainly, you always have the conscience, in the end it’s the conscience, that you feel that maybe if you had done things differently, then the reality today would have been different.”
Now do you realize that you are not actually the victim in the story?
“So I would approach, you know, it’s awfully easy to shirk responsibility. And I shied away from responsibility there. And I know I hurt a lot of people.”
