Video: The Saudi Crown Prince visits Egypt

With the aim of consolidating relations between Cairo and Riyadh, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman arrived in Egypt on an official visit.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Prime Minister.

The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic said, in a statement, “The two leaders held a bilateral meeting, which was followed by an expanded discussion session in the presence of Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt, and the delegations of the two countries.”

He added: “The Egyptian President welcomed Prince Mohammed bin Salman, expressing his best regards to his brother, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, stressing in this context the depth and centrality of the strategic relations between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, especially in light of the threats facing the region, and stressing the importance of continuing Coordination and joint cooperation, to overcome the current delicate stage that our region and Islamic world is going through, and pointing to the mutual keenness to translate the historical relations and ties between the two countries, by strengthening bilateral institutional mechanisms, especially through the inauguration of the Egyptian-Saudi Supreme Coordination Council headed by the President and the Saudi Crown Prince, to follow up Various aspects of bilateral relations and ways to continually develop them.”

According to the statement, “Prince Mohammed bin Salman conveyed to President Sisi the greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, stressing the importance that the Kingdom attaches to strengthening bilateral relations and continuing to build on the historical ties extending between the two countries and the two brotherly peoples, to achieve the common interest at the various political, economic and development levels.”

According to the statement, “the ongoing efforts to develop the Egyptian-Saudi economic partnership were reviewed, especially in the field of investment exchange, trade exchange between the two countries, and economic integration in the fields of energy, transportation, and tourism.”

The discussions also witnessed, the statement adds, “dealing with regional developments, most notably the situation in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, where there was agreement on the seriousness of the regional situation and the necessity of stopping the escalation. The two leaders stressed that the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state, in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy, is the only way to achieve Sustainable calm, peace and security in the region, noting that attempts to liquidate the Palestinian issue would cause the continuation of the state of conflict in the region.”

The two leaders called for “initiating steps for calm, including a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and in Lebanon, addressing the deteriorating humanitarian conditions, and stopping brinkmanship policies in order to stop the expanding circle of conflict.” The necessity of respecting Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, stability, and territorial integrity was also affirmed. The two leaders also discussed a number of regional issues, most notably the security of the Red Sea region, and the situation in Sudan, Libya and Syria.

“At the conclusion of the discussions, the two leaders witnessed the signing of the formation of the Egyptian-Saudi Supreme Coordination Council headed by the President and the Saudi Crown Prince, and the agreement to encourage and protect mutual investments between the two countries.”

The Saudi Royal Court announced that, “Based on the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the Crown Prince, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudi Prime Minister, left for the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt, where he will meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. “To discuss ways to enhance brotherly bilateral relations and issues of common interest.”

According to the statement, “The visit’s agenda will target discussions related to regional issues, most notably the situation in Gaza, Lebanon, the Red Sea, and Sudan. The visit’s agenda also includes the signing of a number of economic agreements, and expanded discussions regarding current and expected Saudi investments in Egypt.”

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly visited the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on September 16.
