Lifting of the ban on the collection and marketing of varnish collected in the Oued Laou-Kaa Sraass area
Rabat – The Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests announced, Monday, the lifting of the ban on the collection and marketing of varnish collected in the shellfish growing zone classified as Oued Laou-Kaa Sraass, falling within the maritime district of Tétouan/Chefchaouen.
The results of analyzes carried out by the National Fisheries Research Institute (INRH) and examined by the Technical Committee in charge of monitoring the marine environment and shellfish showed “stability of the environment and total purification of the varnish” at the level of said area, specifies a press release from the Fisheries Department, under the ministry.
In light of these results, adds the same source, it was decided to lift the ban, the subject of a press release dated July 7.
Furthermore, consumers are recommended to only purchase packaged products, bearing identification health labels and sold in authorized points of sale (official markets).
Shellfish hawked or sold in bulk offer no guarantee of safety and constitute a danger to public health, the press release warns.
