DECCRIBED – The “massive” and “devastating” rainfall that hit much of the country, and more particularly the southeast, is notable in several ways.

« We have not experienced a Cévennes episode of such violence for forty years », assured Prime Minister Michel Barnier. « Never seen before in living memory » in Ardèche, according to the Minister of Ecological Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher. Precipitation « massive » et « devastating » which have occurred over a large part of the country, and more particularly in the south-eastern quarter, are remarkable in more than one sense. They are in fact unprecedented for the Ardèche, confirms Aurélien Ribes, climatologist at the National Meteorological Research Center (Météo-France-CNRS): « For the entire episode, which lasted 60 minutes hours, there is a cumulative rainfall of nearly 700 mm at Mayres station, the equivalent of more than two months of rain, unprecedented since the beginning of the 20th century century in this department. »
