Reconstruction of the Vilnius–Utena road: the works in the city of Utena are finished, a new phase is starting from Molėtai to Utena

It is reported that on the section of the reconstructed Vilnius-Utena road (from 93.7 to 95.6 km) in the city of Utena, two traffic lanes have been renovated, new asphalt has been laid, sections have been repaired, renovated or newly equipped, intersections have been reconstructed, a bus stop with a platform has been installed, perform other work necessary to ensure traffic safety. Lighting has been installed on the reconstructed street and intersections, “Via Lietuva” announced in a press release.

Also, Kupiškios street with J. Basanavičius street and Kupiškios street. the intersections with Molėtai Street were reconstructed into roundabouts, and the Utena–Pakalniai–Alanta, Kaunas–Zarasai–Daugpilis and Kupiškis–Utena sections of the roads were also repaired during the reconstruction of the intersections, the company announces.

A pedestrian-bicycle path has been installed up to J. Basanavičiaus Street, and sidewalks have been installed on the right side of Kupiškios Street from the intersection with Molėtai Street to J. Basanavičius Street and in the areas of roundabouts.

All these works were carried out by the company “HISK“, which won the “Via Lietuva” public works tender, the value of the works is almost 7 million. EUR with value added tax (VAT).

It is reminded that intensive works are also taking place on the 30 km stretch from Molėtai to Utena. All the old covering of concrete slabs has already been removed, new asphalt is intensively being laid, roadsides are being maintained, parking lots and water drainage systems are being installed, informs “Via Lietuva”.

The length of the remaining unfinished Vilnius-Utena road is 42.8 km. The renovation project of this part consists of 5 separate sections.

It should be noted that the Vilnius-Utena road was built in 1979-1985 and is the only road made of concrete slabs in Lithuania. This main road is one of the main transport arteries of Lithuania, leading from the country’s capital to the surrounding municipalities.
