Three French records and above all a European record broken within a few hours of each other. From the start of the short course World Cup in Shanghai, China, Léon Marchand has been eager to make his mark. This Saturday, at the beginning of the afternoon, his name was once again displayed on the top step of the podium in the final of the 200 meters medley. Plus, therefore, the European record (1’50’30’), stolen.
He was already the French record holder since a few hours earlier he had beaten Jérémy Stravius’ record during the series (1′53′’53). This Friday it was he who stole the French 100 meter medley record from Florent Manaudou (50”65). Not bad for a recovery, just over two months after his formidable exploits at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Toulouse native took a few weeks off before returning for this Asian tour. So, even if the records are pouring in, he is still far from expressing his full potential over distances. However, it had been five years since he had queued in a small pool!
The five-time Paris 2024 Olympic medalist will be in Asia until November 2. He will compete in two more stages of the short course World Cup, in Incheon (South Korea) and Singapore.
