Yuvraj sentenced to life imprisonment in Gokulraj massacre case

A special court has sentenced Yuvraj to life imprisonment in the Gokulraj massacre case.

Case details:

Gokulraj is a college student from Omalur, Salem district. He fell in love with a student from Namakkal. Gokulraj, who went to college in 2015, was found murdered on the Thottipalayam railway track in Namakkal district. Yuvraj, the founder of the Deeran Chinnamalai Counter Council in Sankagiri, and 17 of his associates were arrested by the CPCIT police in connection with the murder case.

Following the hearing of the case in the Namakkal court, the High Court directed that the case be transferred to the Madurai District Special Court for Torture Cases on the basis of a petition filed by Gokulraj Thai. The trial has been going on in the Madurai court for the last 2 years.

The court convicted 10 people including his brothers Arun, Kumar and Satish Kumar, Raghu, Ranjith, Selvaraj, Chandrasekaran, Prabhu and Giridhar. The judge also said that all the charges against Yuvraj, the first accused, have been proved. Meanwhile, Shankar, Arul Senthil, Selvakumar, Thangathurai and Suresh were released.

In today’s verdict in the Gokulraj murder case, both Yuvraj and his driver Arun were sentenced to 3 life terms. The other convicts Kumar, Satish Kumar, Raghu, Ranjith Selvaraj were sentenced to 2 life terms, Chandrasekaran to one life sentence, Prabhu and Giridhar to 5 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000.
