CAN-2023 (final): Ivory Coast crowned African champion at the expense of Nigeria (2-1)

Abidjan – Ivory Coast was crowned African champion after its victory against Nigeria with a score of 2 goals to 1 (halftime 0-1), Sunday evening in the final of the 34th African Cup of Nations (CAN), at the Alassane Ouattara Olympic stadium in Ebimpé, in the north of Abidjan.

The Nigerians opened the scoring with Troost-Ekong (38th), while Franck Kessié equalized for Côte d’Ivoire (63rd). Sebastien Haller scored the winning goal nine minutes from the end of regulation time.

This is the third trophy for Côte d’Ivoire after its coronations in 1992 and 2015.

In the semi-finals, played last Wednesday, Ivory Coast eliminated DR Congo (1-0), while Nigeria beat South Africa on penalties (4 to 2 tab, 1-1 time regulations and extensions).

On Saturday, South Africa won the match for third place by gaining the upper hand against DR Congo (6-5 tab, 0-0 regulation time).
