Ji So-yeon (Seattle), the leading striker of the women’s national soccer team, was excluded from the October call-up due to injury.
The Korea Football Association reported on the 19th, “Ji So-yeon suffered a knee injury, so Yeo Min-ji (Gyeongju KHNP) was selected as a replacement.”
The women’s national soccer team, which is making a new start under coach Shin Sang-woo, will convene at Incheon International Airport on the 21st and immediately depart for Japan.
Training will continue on site after the friendly match against Japan on the 26th, and a closed practice match against Japan will be held at the Japan Football Association training center in Chiba on the 29th.
Korea’s striker Lee Geum-min (Birmingham) and goalkeeper Min Yu-kyung (Hwacheon KSPO) suffered injuries, and Kang Chae-rim (Suwon FC) and Kim Min-jeong (Incheon Hyundai Steel) were selected as replacements, and the team had to replace members again due to injuries.
Meanwhile, Japan, the opponent for coach Shin Sang-woo’s debut match, is currently ranked 7th in the FIFA women’s rankings. They advanced to the quarterfinals at both last year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup and this year’s Paris Olympics.
The Women’s National Team A has faced Japan 33 times so far and is absolutely inferior in terms of record against Japan, with 4 wins, 11 draws, and 18 losses. The most recent match was the East Asian Football Federation (EAFF) E-1 Championship (East Asian Cup) held in Kashima, Japan in July 2022, where they lost 1-2. Their last victory was in the 2015 East Asian Cup held in Wuhan, China, where they won 2-1 with goals from Cho So-hyun and Jeon Ga-eul.
