Servette leads Shion in Rhône derby – rts.ch

by time news

Servette won the first Rhône derby of the season by beating Sion in Geneva 3-0. The Garnet are second in the Super League, one point behind leaders Zurich.

The remarkable arrival of the Servetti ultras in the 50th minute of play, just in time to celebrate their team’s 2-0, will still be the highlight of a derby that first took place in an atmosphere to be felt. Ultras from Sédun and Geneva indeed decided to boycott part of the game, and even the whole game for those of FC Sion. Two rival groups came together “against oppression”.

The rest of the 12,987 spectators present at the Geneva stadium were able to appreciate Servette’s opening score, however, which fell after only 5 minutes of play. Timothé Cognat sent well, Miroslav Stevanovic found Enzo Crivelli, whose right foot left Timothy Fayulu with no chance. 3rd goal of the season in the Super League for the Frenchman after scoring 2 from the penalty spot.

Looking for a victory in the championship since August 10, Sion did not play so badly, and even dominated as part of the first act. But the good combination of Didier Tholot’s men near the surface was systematically stopped by an alert Garnet rear guard.

Kutesa scored again

The Sédunoise defense, the best in the Super League before this 10th day, for its cracks twice more in the 2nd period. The fault lies with Derek Kutesa, who led the Super League scorers’ standings with his 6th success of the year, a right-handed shot that was slightly deflected by Reto Ziegler (50th). And for Gaël Ondoua, who increased the score at the end of the game after a save from Numa Lavanchy on his line (86th).

A scene that featured an almost identical save from Crivelli returning from the locker room (47th). Joël Schmied’s strike after a Sédun corner could have changed the course of the game. But as happened in the last derby so far (a 5-0 win for Servette in May 2023), FC Sion left Geneva empty. Sovereigns, the Garnets are still clinging firmly to the lead car.
