Organized at the initiative of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), this event highlights the rich heritage of the philosopher, which is manifested by fundamental values such as tolerance, dialogue and intellectual confrontation, as well as his thinking which has shaped a theoretical framework in which the boundaries between individuals, communities and cultures tend to dissolve.
Through a unique approach, the thought of Abu Hayyan Al-Tawhidi offers reflections on the challenges of human coexistence, such as the relativity of good and evil, destiny and free will, as well as other issues addressed by modern philosophy, noted the participants.
They also highlighted the personal experience of the philosopher and his political tribulations which were reflected in his writings, noting that this thinking can contribute today to understanding the causes and motives of a certain number of cultural conflicts.
At the opening of this meeting, the Director General of ICESCO, Salim M. AlMalik, affirmed that the thought of Abu Hayyan Al-Tawhidi is at the forefront in terms of promoting intercultural dialogue, there is over a thousand years old, emphasizing that the brilliance of its ideas has not diminished over the centuries.
“Al-Tawhidi’s writings confirm the fact that Islamic thought has always rejected blind fanaticism and lame racism,” he noted.
Abu Hayyan Al-Tawhidi (310-414 AH) wrote many works, the most notable of which are “Pleasure and Conviviality”, “Conversations”, “Glimpses and Treasures”, “On Friendship and Friends “, and “Divine Directives”, among others.
The conference, which took place in the presence of academicians, academics and intellectuals, was marked by interventions on themes, notably “The relationship between self and other in Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi”, “Abu Hayyan Al-Tawhidi and the question of modernization” and “A reading of the intellectual context of Abu Hayyan Al-Tawhidi”.
