The Ministry of Affairs takes over the duties of the Higher Committee for Childhood

During an official ceremony, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Wafaa Al-Kilani, assumed the duties of the Higher Committee for Childhood, in the presence of some department directors and members of the committee in charge of the handover and receipt process, in implementation of the decision of the Presidency of the National Unity Government No. (511) of 2024 regarding the restructuring of the committee.

This event came as part of “the framework of ongoing efforts to support childhood issues in Libya, as the Higher Committee for Childhood is considered the main body responsible for setting public policies related to protecting and caring for children’s rights.”

The committee seeks to “promote a safe and appropriate environment for the growth and development of children, in coordination with relevant national and international institutions, especially in light of the social and economic challenges.”

After receiving the committee’s duties, Al-Kilani held “a meeting with the committee’s employees, where they discussed ways to improve and develop the work to ensure the implementation of the operational plan for the current year,” stressing “the importance of strengthening the committee’s efforts to be able to address the challenges facing children in Libya.”

She pointed to the role played by the government in supporting the Higher Committee for Childhood, noting the government’s commitment to providing all necessary support to ensure the committee’s success in achieving its goals, adding that “the government considers the protection and care of children a top priority in its future plans, through improving national policies.”

In light of the ongoing challenges, she stressed “the importance of teamwork within the committee and the necessity of providing innovative solutions that contribute to improving the quality of children’s lives and ensuring their basic rights.”
