Jindo-gun was selected as the ‘2024 local government with excellent regional statistics.’ Jindo-gun was selected as an excellent local government in the ‘2024 Regional Statistics Excellent Local Government’ review hosted by the Honam Regional Statistics Office.
Jindo-gun participated in the Honam Regional Statistics Contest held last August under the theme of “More Policies Created with Statistics,” and won the Encouragement Award, establishing itself as an excellent regional statistics organization in the Honam region.
This contest was an opportunity to evaluate the usability and creativity of regional statistics for 45 local governments in the Honam region. The evaluation of local governments with excellent regional statistics was evaluated based on five items: △ examples of regional statistics policy utilization △ performance of regional statistics development and improvement △ participation in technical support and consulting △ efforts to strengthen statistical capabilities △ cooperation in regional statistics demand surveys.
In this contest, Jindo-gun used various statistical data in the region to present new measures that can be practically used in the policy-making process such as agriculture and fisheries, response to population extinction, and commercial revitalization. This approach is a new method for Jindo-gun’s policy-making process. It was greatly appreciated for providing perspective.
The award will be given on November 14th along with the presentation of best practice organizations at the ‘Honam Regional Statistics Development Discussion Forum’ hosted by the Honam Regional Statistics Office.
An official from Jindo-gun said, “This selection as an excellent local government is significant in that our county’s statistics played an important role in developing and deciding on policies that can satisfy the citizens,” and added, “In the future, local statistics will go beyond simple numbers and “We will strive to play an important role in developing policies that more closely respond to the characteristics of society and the needs of the county residents,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Bobae Island Culture and Arts Festival in Jindo-gun will be held for three days from Friday the 25th to Sunday the 27th under the theme of ‘Jindo, the island of folk culture and cultural city of Korea.’ This festival is hosted by Jindo-gun and organized by the Jindo Branch of the Korean Federation of Arts and Culture and the Jindo Cultural City Center, and is held throughout Jindo-gun.
First, the ‘Jindo-gun Bobae Island Culture and Arts Festival’ held in the Jindo Local Cultural Center will be held by shortening the festival period from 16 days to 3 days and converting it into a citizen-participatory event where people communicate through culture and empathize with art.
On the 25th, there will be a special performance of “Seorirang Neoul” under the theme of Jindo Arirang, a Cultural City Forum to discuss the future direction of Jindo-gun Cultural City, and a “Korea Cultural City Future Vision Declaration Ceremony” to announce the vision for Jindo-gun to grow into a folk culture city of the Republic of Korea. This event will feature a joint performance of Arirang by the three cities and provinces, featuring traditional Korean musicians such as Song So-hee and Oh Dan-hae, and a Jindo Ssitgimgut public event.
The next day, on the 26th, the Jindo Dashraegi public event, the Ganggangsullae festival with 9 teams and 300 people participating, and the 3rd Jindo Silver Song Festival featuring invited singers such as comedian Shim Hyeong-rae and Baek Nam-soo will be held.
On the last day, the 27th, the three-day arts festival concludes with the Jindo Drum Festival, in which 12 teams and 150 people participate, and the ‘Panthree Arirak’ performance, which includes pansori and Korean traditional music songs.
In addition, during the three-day festival, busking performances and performances by local cultural and arts groups will be held at the entrance of the local cultural center (near the outdoor performance hall) in the morning.
Next to the outdoor performance hall, experiential events such as traditional Korean musical instruments, rice cake making, writing, photo zone, children’s playground, Jindo chigi game, and folk game competition will be held. For three days, works of poetry, calligraphy, painting, tourist photos, calligraphy and painting, etc. will be held throughout Jindo-gun. An exhibition event will also be held.
