The Devil’s Trail, which is a hit among tourists, was renovated with municipal money – it enjoys interest similar to that of the top destinations Yagodinska Cave and Orlovo Oko panoramic site
“Borino municipality has already managed to implement 4 out of a total of 5 approved projects worth BGN 6 million from the national budget for 2024. Most of the municipalities have not started them yet, as there is no full funding, but only partial. We managed to create good organization with companies.” This is what the mayor of the municipality Mustafa Karaahmed says.
BGN 3,104,900 was used to reconstruct the municipal road from Teshel to Yagodina, which is one of the busiest roads because of the Yagodina Cave and the “Orlovo Oko” panoramic site.
With funds from the state budget, the ethernet pipes of the water supply from the source to the reservoir of the village of Buinovo were replaced with RE-HD F-110 pipes.
The work on the construction of a park space in the center of the village of Borino will be completed in a few days. According to the project, part of the river bed near the municipality is covered. Arc-shaped benches with wooden pergolas have been installed, parking spaces have also been designated. The asphalt pavement is also renewed, new pavement tiles are laid.
By the middle of November, the work on the fourth project will also be completed – reconstruction of the pressure water supply from the Karaja Dere pumping station to the external water supply for the municipal center in Borino.
There is one more project with national funding –
creation of a park space in the village of Chala,
but it will start to be realized in the next construction season, Karaahmed specifies. According to him, investments in infrastructure in recent years have significantly improved the quality of life in the municipal center and the 4 villages.
A project worth 1.5 million for the repair of the streets “Zdravets”, “Mura”, “Porechie”, “Aleko Konstantinov”, “Edelweiss” and “Omurtag” is in the process of being approved by the “Agriculture” fund. Complete repaving and new sidewalks are planned for them.
“These streets will not be excavated, as the municipality managed to replace the water network. In addition to this, a new sewerage system and a waste water treatment plant were dug. Bopino is one of the few municipalities in the city it’s a completely wasted water cycle,” says the mayor.
In Borino – in 7-8 places, and in the villages there are fire protection boards. Since the municipality is served by the fire departments of Dospat and Devin, these boards are on standby, and people are trained how to react in the event of a fire until help arrives.
The municipality has also approved a project worth BGN 380,000 for the technological renewal and modernization of the external artificial lighting. The current energy-intensive light fixtures will be replaced with new LED lamps. They will be installed on existing poles, but new ones will also be installed to provide the necessary lighting.
The renovation will cover all populated areas in the municipality, and with the realized savings, the administration will be able to afford full lighting throughout the dark part of the day.
“The municipality has ready projects for the next 4 years. Recently, however
it is increasingly difficult to implement the plans due to the lack of a regular government
“Municipalities are dependent on a sustainable central authority,” says the longtime mayor.
The facilities along the Devil’s Trail, which is a hit among tourists, were repaired with municipal funds. It is extreme and breathtaking in its beauty and enjoys interest similar to that of established top destinations in the Rhodopes such as the Orlovo Oko panoramic site and the Yagodin Cave.
The Devil’s Trail is an example of Borino’s efforts to become an attractive tourist destination. The municipality is truly unique in that every settlement is attractive to tourists. More than 50% of the population of Jagodina and less in Buinovo, Kozhari, Chala and the municipal center make a living from tourism.
Borino is attractive for adventure and ecotourism, horse riding, mountain biking,
trekking with buggies (ATV), off-road, as well as snowmobiles in winter.
“In the municipality, there are about 430 places to stay in family hotels, guest houses and independent villas. There is really no heavy industrial production here that pollutes nature.
In addition to tourism, the residents of the municipality are engaged in woodworking, dairy production, sewing workshops, animal husbandry, honey extraction, herbs.
The tourism industry reports a season that was very strong in August, and tourists far outnumbered the local population, but the national road network needs to be improved. The road Devin – Borino and from there to Dospat is in a very bad condition. Together with the fellow mayors of the neighboring municipalities, we insist that this road section be repaired, but we have assurances from the state that it will be built in 2025,” says Karaahmed.
Under the program for rural areas, the municipality has a guaranteed BGN 3.346 million, with which it will build the road to the beautiful area of Kastrakli, the park space in front of the mosque in Borino and Buinovo.
With the launch of the unfinished road to the nature reserve “Kastrakli”, which has a total area of 129.18 hectares, it is expected to increase the interest of tourists. Now it is also visited by tourists for its beauty and biodiversity, but access is difficult.
The reserve has the highest concentration of
butterflies in our country – over 450 species
“We do all this to improve the quality of life. That is why our efforts are in infrastructure, tourism, culture, education, sports. The elderly and people from vulnerable groups are not forgotten.
Under the personal assistance mechanism, 28 personal assistants are employed to serve 28 users, under the “Assistant Support” service, 39 social assistants are employed, caring for 69 users, providing quality social services.
300 people benefit from “Hot Lunch”. The children in the two schools in Borino and Jagodina for a consecutive year achieved very high marks in the national external evaluations. We are trying, as far as possible, to create all kinds of conditions for the detention of young people – we have built sports grounds, renovated kindergartens and schools.
No sphere is forgotten despite the limited financial resources of the municipalities,” adds Karaahmed.
