In an update received by MAP, the Municipality of Casablanca informs public opinion that the information circulating in certain media and social networks regarding the holding of a meeting on Monday July 25, 2022 on the measures to be undertaken to deal with water stress, in particular the issue of cutting off drinking water from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. and the freezing of the activities of certain professions which essentially depend on water, are false and completely unfounded.

Furthermore, the Municipality of Casablanca, while denying this information, reminds the Casablanca population that faced with the very critical water situation characterized by very low dam filling rates in the majority of Morocco‘s hydraulic basins, it is imperative to fight against water waste, and to refrain from any form of waste in order to preserve water resources and ensure equitable distribution of this vital commodity.

The Minister of the Interior had sent a circular to the Walis and Governors in order to implement the actions necessary for rational water management, calling on those responsible to urgently bring together the prefectural and provincial Commissions established by article 89 of Law 36-15 relating to water, with a view to implementing the actions necessary for rational management of water resources and guaranteeing the supply of drinking water to the population, recalls the same source.

The services of the city of Casablanca have been working in close collaboration, for more than 3 months, with the Wilaya of the Casablanca region, Lydec, the hydraulic basin and external services to implement a strategy for the rational use of water resources which will soon be officially published, concludes the update.
