1st place in 500m women’s ice national team selection
“I’m looking forward to a season prepared with lots of new challenges.”
“I’m looking forward to this season as I prepared for it with a lot of new challenges.”
Kim Min-seon (25, Uijeongbu City Hall) said this after winning the women’s 500m race in 38.62 seconds at the National Speed Skating Championships for men and women held at the Taereung International Skating Rink in Seoul on the 22nd to serve as the national team selection event for next season. Min-seon Kim fell short of the 38.46 seconds she set at the official record meeting held on the 9th, but took first place, beating Lee Na-hyun (19, Korea National Sport University), who recorded 38.98 seconds. Kim Min-seon’s personal best record in this event is 36.96 seconds set at the 4th International Skating Union (ISU) World Cup in 2022.
Kim Min-seon trained with an overseas joint team for the first time during this off-season. Min-seon Kim said, “I won five consecutive gold medals at the 2022-2023 ISU World Cup, but I had a lot of physical disappointment at the end of the season. “The 2023-2024 season had fewer gold medals, but we managed the season with a strategy to do well in the last and most important competition of the season,” he said. He said, “Important games such as the Olympics and World Championships are all held at the end of the season. The player who rides best at the end has to be the one. “That’s why I decided to learn from world-class players who don’t waver even on big stages.” Kim Min-seon said, “There was only one athlete whose main event was the 500m, and most of them were middle- and long-distance athletes, but the physical training was really scientific. “I was more motivated by training with Olympic medalists, including Miho Takagi (Japan, women’s 1,500m world record holder),” he added.
Kim Min-seon, who was the youngest member at the 2017 Sapporo Winter Asian Games, will lead the juniors as the eldest sister at next year’s Harbin Winter Asian Games. Kim Min-seon said, “Many people will be looking forward to the Asian Games, but for me, every season is like the Olympic season,” and expressed her determination, saying, “I will train with the mindset that I can win a gold medal.”
