LPGA Maybank Championship opens tomorrow
Secretariat: “After shaking off my shoulder injury, I will play again”
10 Korean players, including Yoo Hae-ran, challenge for the championship
‘Go Jin-young is back.’
The LPGA Tour secretariat used this expression ahead of the opening of the Maybank Championship of the LPGA Tour, which will be held at the Golf and Country Club (par 72) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for four days starting on the 24th. The secretariat posted an article titled ‘Five things to know about the Maybank Championship’, highlighting Jin-young Ko’s return for the fourth time.
The secretariat said, “Jinyoung Ko, the former world number one in women’s golf, who had recently been struggling with a shoulder injury, will participate again in this tournament,” and added, “This is her first win of the season after competing in about two months since the FM Championship held on August 30. “We are aiming for,” he said. The LPGA Tour is conducting the ‘Asian Swing’, which involves playing matches in Asian countries for four weeks, starting with the Buick LPGA Shanghai, which ended on the 13th.
Jinyoung Ko, ranked 6th in the world, has been focusing on shoulder treatment after losing the trophy to Hae-ran Yoo (23) in overtime at the FM Championship. Jin-young Ko, who debuted on the tour in 2018, has won at least one win every year, but has yet to win this season. Jinyoung Ko’s last win was the Cognizant Founders Cup in May last year. The secretariat analyzed, “Ko Jin-young has been showing shining form in recent months, entering the ‘top 10’ four times in the six recent competitions he has participated in.”
Ten Korean players, including Ko Jin-young and Yoo Hae-ran, will participate in this tournament. In particular, Yoo Hae-ran, who ranks highest among Korean players in major records this season, including 3rd in CME points, 4th in Player of the Year points, and 5th in prize money rankings, is aiming for his second win of the season. In addition, Seong Yu-jin (24) and Choi Hye-jin (25), who tied for fourth place, the best among Korean players, in the BMW Championship that ended in Korea on the 20th, will also challenge for the championship.
