Favorite Champions: ‘Lee Sin’, ‘Nidali’, ‘Rammus’, ‘Viego’, and ‘Vi’
“My favorite team is T1… “I hope Faker maintains his performance for 10 years.”
Son Heung-min, captain of the Korean national soccer team, revealed that he is a fan of the game ‘League of Legends (LoL)’ and e-sports player ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok Lee.
Son Heung-min revealed various episodes he experienced while playing LoL since 2019 through an exclusive interview video released by Riot Games on the 22nd. Son Heung-min also enjoyed playing LoL with players in the video.
He, who plays as an ace for the English professional soccer team Tottenham Hotspur, said that video games are a medium that connects him with his hometown (Korea), and that he especially enjoys LoL.
Son Heung-min said, “It’s probably been nearly 5 years since I played League of Legends. It was the time of COVID-19. I knew about games for a long time, but I was just starting out and I was no different from a beginner, so I didn’t want to be made fun of. My friends asked me, ‘What are you doing?’ ‘I don’t even know how to play League of Legends,’ so I was afraid to take my first step,” he recalled.
His first position was jungle, and his favorite champions were Lee Sin, Nidalee, Rammus, Viego, and Vi.
Son Heung-min said, “I am a jungler, and I have to intervene in various attack lanes and dominate the game. If you can get the chance. It’s similar to playing soccer in the stadium. I am a striker and I have to score goals when I have the chance. “I have a strong desire to win the game,” he said.
He also revealed that he enjoys watching LCK (League of Legends Champions Korea) and League of Legends e-sports games.
He said, “I watched a lot of games to practice in my mind, and it helped me a lot. My favorite team is T1. “When I visited Korea with the Tottenham Hotspur team three years ago, I met T1 after training and took a picture with the entire team,” he said with a smile.
He added, “To me, Faker is the greatest player in e-sports history. I hope to maintain my performance for the next 10 years. “It’s really the best,” he said. “Going to the World Championships or World Cup means representing your country. “I always feel a great sense of responsibility,” he said.
Currently, T1 has advanced to the semifinals of the World Championship, and Faker Lee Sang-hyuk has participated in the Hangzhou Asian Games as a representative of Korea.
Finally, Son Heung-min said, “There is always tension in the stadium. There is also the pressure of being a professional. But off the pitch, I would like to say that League of Legends is one of the things that has always connected me with my hometown. It makes me smile with pure joy. “I laugh a lot and it’s just really fun,” he said.
