For his second participation in the Festival of Sacred World Music in Fez, the prolific guitarist Vicente Amigo promises a memorable concert where flamenco, Andalusia and Spanish culture and art will be majestically honored, indicates a press release from the organizers of the Festival.
Disciple and worthy successor of Paco De Lucía, Vicente Amigo will rock the stage of Bab Al Makina on May 31, 2024 during a concert eagerly awaited by fans of flamenco music and Andalusian culture.
For this show, which will celebrate Spain, the country in the spotlight this edition, Vicente Amigo will be accompanied by his reference musicians: Antonio Fernández (Añil) on guitar, Paquito González on percussion, Ewen Vernal on bass, Rafael Usero Vilches (Rafael de Utrera) on vocals and Antonio Molina (Choro) on dance.
Thanks to his light and fluid style, Vicente Amigo has succeeded in creating a bridge between classic flamenco and new, so-called contemporary, flamenco.
His ability to navigate between different styles perfectly suits the singers accompanying him, while promoting original musical creations. The perfect mastery of the flamenco style, musical curiosity and exceptional talent make Vicente Amigo one of the most innovative creators of flamenco music.
He revolutionized this art thanks to daring compositions where he mixes various genres such as folk, jazz, South American rhythms, in addition to oriental sounds, without losing the purity of classic flamenco.
Vicente Amigo’s music has remained open to the world, in perpetual renewal, allowing him to collaborate with other geniuses like Paco de Lucía and Manolo Sanlúcar, or recognized singers such as Carmen Linares, Enrique Morente, Diego El Cigala, Miguel Poveda, El Pele, José Mercé and Estrella Morente.
Vicente Amigo was born in Guadalcanal, province of Seville, but grew up in Córdoba where, at the age of eight, he received his first Spanish guitar. His first teachers were “El Tomate” and “El Merengue”, then he became a student of Manolo Sanlúcar. In 1988, he began his solo career by performing at the Festival international del Cante de la Minas de la Unión where he won first prize in the guitar section. Later he won the Extremadura International Competition. In May 1989 he won one of the main national guitar awards, the Ramón Montoya Prize. In two years, the prodigy artist won three of the main flamenco guitar competitions.
