Lucknow: The Election Commission has reportedly ordered action against the Varanasi ADM for violating election rules. National media reported, citing sources, that the Election Commission has directed the UP Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Varanasi to take action against ADM NK Singh for violating the rules to be followed while transporting voting machines for training to officials.

Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav has alleged that electronic voting machines were being smuggled out of counting centers in Varanasi. The SP had said that the district magistrate had smuggled the voting machines without informing the candidates and the Election Commission should look into the incident. This was followed by the intervention of the Election Commission.

Samajwadi Party supporters also posted on social media yesterday the scenes of trucks being smuggled into the counting machines. The Varanasi district magistrate had yesterday said that the voting machines were for training purposes and were not being used for electioneering.

But Akhilesh Yadav had publicly denied the allegations in front of the media. We stopped a truck that came with voting machines. But two other trucks passed by. He also asked why the two trucks that came with the EVMs crossed if it was not a suspicious activity.
