Amid Tazerbo: Most palm farms were damaged by desert locusts

The mayor of Tazirbu Municipality, Ibrahim Jadallah, reported that significant damage had been recorded in this year’s palm crops due to the spread of locusts, which caused huge material losses to farmers.

In a statement to Al-Ahrar, Brigadier General Tazerbo revealed the arrival of specialized teams from Tripoli and Benghazi, to combat the desert locusts that spread in the city about ten days ago, coming from Sudan and Chad.

Dean Tazerbo pointed out that there were five cars working to spray the locusts with pesticides, calling for the municipality’s immediate support in confronting the locusts that had invaded most of its farms.

In the same regard, the head of the National Committee to Combat Desert Locusts, Salah Mubarak, said: Their control teams are working on swarms of the local African locusts, which are endemic in the country, in Tazirbu, Tarhuna and Bani Walid.

Mubarak added, in an intervention with Al-Ahrar, that they had received communications from agricultural sector coordinators and from their offices in several regions in the south. They formed combat teams in the areas of Nalut, Ghat, Idri, and Ghadames.

Mubarak reported that they had begun combating an area of ​​600 hectares in Sebha and Samno, calling on the unity government to work quickly to provide control capabilities urgently.
