The former midfielder, who was 61 years old, was immediately rescued and transported by helicopter to the Guglielmo da Saliceto hospital in Piacenza. But his conditions were now desperate
The world of football is mourning the death of Luigi Rocca, a 61-year-old former midfielder who, among others, wore the Inter shirt. Rocca died suddenly while playing an amateur game with friends in Piacenza, his hometown. He fell ill on the pitch, was immediately rescued and transported by helicopter to the Guglielmo da Saliceto hospital, but there was nothing that could be done for him.
Immediate relief on the field already
According to the testimonies collected by the newspaper Piacenza Freedom, Rocca warned his teammates about illness during the match, shortly before he fell to the ground. The rescue services intervened immediately: a medical car and an ambulance arrived on the field, and 118 personnel tried to revive Rocca, also using the defibrillator that was on site. Despite the timely arrival of the air ambulance from Parma, which was transported once to the Guglielmo da Saliceto hospital, the 61-year-old unfortunately died.

He first started in Serie A in 1982
There have been many messages of condolence to the family, including a message from Piacenza Calcio, which indicated how close it is to an official statement. Luigi Rocca was born in Coli and began his football career in the Inter youth team, making his UEFA Cup debut on 30 September 1981 against Adanaspor, taking on Lele Oriali. He made his Serie A debut the following year, on 16 May 1982, in Inter’s win against Avellino. During his career, he also played for clubs such as Sanremese, Casertana and Piacenza. Afterwards, he embarked on a career as a coach, managing Piacenza’s youth teams and several amateur teams, such as Fanfulla, Fiorenzuola and Codogno.
His death leaves a void in the world of football, where he was respected not only for his sporting skills, but also for his commitment as a coach and trainer for the new generations.
