The War Memorial Association (Chairman Baek Seung-ju) will hold the ‘2024 UN Participation Commemoration Event’ from October 24th to 26th to mark UN Day.

The UN Participation Commemoration Event, which first began in 2021 and is now in its 4th year, is the representative public diplomacy cultural event of the War Memorial Project Conference held in commemoration of October 24, the anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.

The opening ceremony held on the morning of the 24th will be attended by officials from 22 embassies of the Korean War and the United Nations Command. Ambassador Murat Tamer Turkiye, representing the participating countries, will deliver a congratulatory address, followed by a reading of a thank you letter from a descendant of a Korean war veteran.

There will also be a performance by Black Swan, a K-pop girl group whose members are all from UN participating countries, and a costume show themed around the 22 UN participating countries, the UN, and the Republic of Korea. Additionally, the ‘23-24 Public Diplomacy Photo Exhibition’ opens on this day. The photo exhibition included △ images of domestic and foreign guests visiting the War Memorial of Korea, △ cultural and veterans events related to participating countries held at the memorial hall, etc.

On the 25th, the final round of the Youth Security Speech Contest will be held under the theme of ‘War Prevention and Creating Conditions for Peaceful Unification.’ Of the approximately 100 applicants, 20 who passed the preliminary round will advance to the finals. The results will be announced on the same day, and a total of 10.9 million won in prize money will be awarded, including the grand prize (Minister of Defense Award), gold prize (War Memorial Association Chairman’s Award), and special awards including the National Assembly Defense Committee Chairman’s Award and the Senior Vice-Chairman’s Award for Democratic and Peaceful Unification. On this afternoon, a regular ceremony for the Armed Forces will be held at Peace Square.

On the 26th, the last day, △ special educational programs for elementary school students and toddlers such as ‘Exploration of Participating Nations’ and ‘Find the Secret in the Flag’ △ open talk with officers of the UN Command △ cultural costume show of UN participating countries △ Taekwondo performance △ photo booth, etc. for the whole family.
